Being a cop is never easy. They need to be tough, diligent, and committed. Because they are guided by codes of ethics to aid them in performance of their duties and to ensure maintenance of high standards of conduct, they are faced with a maze of obligations in the performance of their official duties (Felkenes, 1984).
Crime in the Philippines are increasing day by day. Even in daylight, the crime rate is higher on that time than that of nighttime. In other words, the country has a moderately high rate of violent crime, particularly in the Capital city of Manila. Frequently, incidents of violent robbery and assault occur and visitors are often the targets. The local criminal gangs are the primary culprits of these doing, and it‘s not unheard of for individual hoodlums to strike on their own. Did you know? Since President Duterte was elected in 2016, there have been over 7,000 judicial killings by police and vigilantes in response to the President’s war on drugs (Sylvester, 2015). Because of this heavy stance, the government has divided the nation and seen innocent people, including visitors of the country, caught up in the crossfire. In October 2016, a South Korean businessman was kidnapped and killed by rogue police officers in the National Police Headquarters in Quezon City. His wife was also threatened with a ransom! In a separate attack, in January 2017, three South Korean golfers were victims of robbery and extortion by rogue police officers in Angeles City.

Many visitors have been victims of bag snatching by armed assailants on foot or on motorbikes. In July 2017, a New Zealand man living in the Philippines was shot dead while being robbed of his bag when he visited a market on Bilirian Island. A British man was also mugged and shot dead for US$13 outside a bar in Cebu. It is such a great shame in our country, right?
Now being a Police Officer is quite tiring while hearing these unfortunate news. What you will gonna do is to know what are the roles of being a security worker anyone can be proud of. According to the Criminal Justice (2019), the duties of a police officer, also known as a law enforcement officer: (1) focus on protecting people and property; (2) patrol the areas they are assigned to, which sometimes include entire jurisdictions, respond to calls, enforce laws and regulations, make arrests, issue citations, and occasionally testify in court cases. In fact, they often make traffic stops, respond to domestic disturbances, and, at times, provide first aid to someone involved in a traffic accident or injured in a domestic dispute until paramedics arrive. Majority of their time is divided between patrolling, writing reports, and filling out forms. It is fun, hard, and engaging.

Lastly, becoming a true cop involves necessary active skills to promote peace and order in the country. Being idle is a no-no in this job. This is a serious job and do not need to be taken for granted. It’s not just a job, it becomes part of who and what you are, and there are not many professions that can get into your blood as law enforcement seems to. It’s dangerous and hard work, and it often feels underappreciated, but being a cop truly can feel like one of the best jobs out there!
